Indian Philosophical Congress

The Indian Philosophical Congress was established by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore and Dr.Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan in 1925. Its Silver Jubilee Session was held at Calcutta University and the Golden Jubilee Session was held at Delhi University. In 1985, the Diamond Jubilee session was inaugurated in Hyderabad by the then Prime Minister of IndiaShri. Rajiv Gandhi. In 2000, the Platinum Jubilee session was held in New Delhi with the then President of IndiaHon’ble Shri. K. R. Narayanan presiding as Patron. Each year, the Congress is hosted by a different university in India, as decided by the Executive Committee during the previous Congress. Philosophers, thinkers, research scholars, students & even the common public from India & abroad are regularly taking part in the Congress. The Congress runs over a period of four days, with a number of regular panels.

Welcome to Annamalai University

Annamalai University, one of the largest Universities in terms of disciplinary diversity and student enrolment, is also one of the oldest universities in South India. Sprawling over a vast and sylvan campus of 1000 acres, the University houses about 50 Departments of Study under Eight Faculties. Founded by the legendary philanthropist and farsighted visionary, Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar in 1929, Annamalai University has played a key role in social, cultural, and economic uplift of the people across the rungs of society for nearly a century. Annamalainagar, the University Town, is located just to the east of Chidambaram, the Abode of the Cosmic Dancer, Lord Nataraja.

Faculty of Arts

The Faculty of Arts has been in existence since the inception of the University in 1929, and from then onwards, the Faculty has made rapid strides in both teaching and research, catering to the academic needs of rural students and others hailing from both within Cuddalore District, and elsewhere.

Department of Philosophy

Since its inception in 1929, the Department of Philosophy has made long strides in both teaching and research.  It caters to the academic needs of students and researchers.  The Department offers Two postgraduate programmes in addition toPh.D. and D.Litt. research programmes.
